A High School Football Team Decided To Take A Knee For The Anthem, So The Refs Taught Them A Lesson

A high school football team knelt during the national anthem in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick’s protest. Referees Ernie Lunardelli and Anthony Lunardelli, in response, left the field. Ernie expressed his frustration, saying, “I’m not in favor of anyone disrespecting our country, our flag, the armed forces.”

Ernie had previously warned the league he’d quit if players knelt during his officiated game. When students knelt, Ernie and his son fulfilled their promise by walking off. Two cadets took their place, raising concerns about the game’s legitimacy. Ernie argued, “That game should not count now… They’re putting the kids in jeopardy.”

Ernie was prepared to defend his stance with a lawyer and refused to be pushed out. The incident highlights the ongoing debate over kneeling during the anthem in sports.
