Former President Jimmy Carter arrives in wheelchair at late wife Rosalynn’s funeral

Jimmy Carter Bids Farewell to Wife Rosalynn in Emotional Funeral

Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, attended the funeral of his wife, Rosalynn, on Tuesday in Atlanta, despite being in hospice care. Dressed sharply and wrapped in a blanket, Carter, accompanied by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, paid his respects to his wife of 77 years at the front of the service.

Rosalynn’s remains were brought to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum on Monday. All former first ladies, including Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump, and Laura Bush, attended the event, entering Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church together.

In a poignant moment, Chip Carter, the former president’s son, revealed that Jimmy had been by Rosalynn’s side during her final moments. Expressing love and pride, he acknowledged the “wonderful things she had done” in her life.

Rosalynn Carter was renowned for her advocacy for mental health awareness and better services for the mentally ill. Chip shared that on November 18, the day before her passing, Jimmy sought a private moment with her. Speculating that they likely prayed together, Chip noted the intimacy of their shared space, where both hospice beds were arranged foot-to-foot, allowing them to gaze at each other.
