Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney have defied the odds, maintaining a strong marriage for over three decades. Their story began when McRaney, captivated by Burke, pursued her despite fierce competition. Reflecting on asking her out, he remarked, “I wasn’t going to let her get away… I was going to move in right away.”

Their whirlwind romance led to a proposal on their second date, and in 1989, they officially tied the knot. McRaney, on his third marriage, was determined to make it last. Despite skepticism from friends, he dismissed concerns, emphasizing the unique understanding they shared.

Both entrenched in the entertainment industry, Burke and McRaney supported each other through highs and lows. In 1998, their bond faced a severe test when Burke dealt with family crises, weight gain due to hypoglycemia, and a diabetes diagnosis. Burke recalled her struggle, stating, “I knew something was wrong, but nobody could tell me what.”

Amidst health challenges, McRaney’s steadfast support became evident. Burke, dealing with diabetes, praised her husband for standing by her during thick and thin. Despite health issues and McRaney’s victorious battle against lung cancer in 2004, their love endured.

Burke, now using insulin, appreciates McRaney’s care, emphasizing, “He loved me when I got as big as a house… He has loved me through my up times and my down times.”

As they prioritize health together, the couple has no plans for Burke’s return to acting. While McRaney doesn’t intend to retire, they look forward to relocating to central Florida, having spent years raising McRaney’s three children from a previous marriage.

In a world where marriages are often tested, Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney serve as a testament to lasting love, defying Hollywood norms and embodying the essence of honoring wedding vows.
