Former Officer Derek Chauvin Stabbed in Prison

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted in George Floyd’s murder, was seriously injured in a stabbing at the Federal Correction Institution, Tucson. The incident, reported by The Associated Press, occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time according to The Associated Press. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison expressed sadness, emphasizing that Chauvin, like any inmate, should serve his sentence without fear confirmed to  The Star Tribune

The Bureau of Prisons and the FBI confirmed the inmate assault without specifying Chauvin as the victim. Life-saving measures were taken, and the injured inmate was hospitalized. FCI Tucson suspended visitations indefinitely.

Chauvin, sentenced to 22 ½ years for Floyd’s murder, recently had his appeal rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court. Seeking to overturn both state and federal convictions, he alleged new evidence in the federal case. Floyd’s 2020 death, captured on video, sparked nationwide protests against racial injustice and police brutality.
