52-year-old “Survivor” winner promises to donate entire $1 million prize to veterans in need

Mike Gabler, a 52-year-old heart valve expert from Meridian, Idaho, clinched victory in season 43 of “Survivor,” making him the second oldest winner in the show’s history. Remarkably, Gabler sailed through the season without a single vote against him, securing a near-unanimous victory from fellow contestants.

What sets Gabler apart even more is his decision regarding the $1 million prize that comes with winning “Survivor.” In a historic move, he pledged to donate the entire sum to Veterans in Need, honoring his father, Robert Gable, who served in the military. Gabler emphasized the significance of the season and its special people, expressing gratitude for the experience and the exceptional cast.

Coming from a military family, Gabler recognized his own fortune and acknowledged the need to improve as a husband, father, brother, and son. He shared his intention with show host Jeff Probst, stating, “We’re going to help veterans in need, and we’re going to donate that entire million dollars to them.” Gabler’s altruistic gesture has garnered widespread praise, showcasing the positive impact of reality television beyond the entertainment realm.
