The Clerk Who Shot A Shoplifter At His Store Is Being Charged With Murder

Gas Station Clerk Faces Murder Charge for Shooting Shoplifter

An Indiana gas station clerk, Vincent Bibbs, is facing murder charges after shooting a shoplifter who attempted to steal Red Bull energy drinks. Damon McClain, the 49-year-old shoplifter and an Army veteran, lost his life in the incident.

Bibbs confronted McClain, who was attempting to leave the store with stolen items, and shot him in the face with an unlicensed handgun. A witness reported hearing shouts and demands to return the stolen items before a single shot was fired. Bibbs, after firing the shot, continued his work in the gas station, even serving customers, before calling 911 for the victim.

When questioned by the police, Bibbs initially denied any involvement in the shooting, claiming not to have heard the gunshot and stating he didn’t have a gun. However, security footage revealed McClain’s theft and Bibbs chasing him. Bibbs later confessed, acknowledging the gun’s ownership and that it discharged unintentionally.

Bibbs was arrested on a murder charge and one count of carrying a handgun without a license. The victim, Damon McClain, was remembered for his friendly nature and ability to connect with people.

This case raises questions about the use of deadly force in such situations and the consequences it can have.
